Juwan Lee
Juwan Lee is a director, writer, producer who has shot over a hundred music videos with artists such as Ne-yo, Keyshia Cole, Trey Songz, K Michelle, Jermaine Dupri, Nelly, Bow Wow, Meek Mill, Kelly Rowland, Sean Paul, DJ Drama, 2 Chainz, Missy Elliott, Queen Latifah, Dem Franchize Boyz, and many other well known musical artists.
Juwan, who was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA, went on to study English at Morehouse College while taking a handful of Film and TV courses at Clark Atlanta University. After graduating from Morehouse, he stayed in Atlanta for a couple more years, chasing production projects wherever he could find them. A roommate's cousin put him in touch with Benny Boom, an industry heavyweight, living in New York at the time, whose video roster includes Sean Paul, Ciara, Lil Wayne, 50 Cent and Busta Rhymes.
He eventually returned to Philly and began taking additional film courses at the Art Institute to stay on top of the current technology while at the same time commuting to NYC several times a week working as a creative assistant with Benny Boom.
Juwan’s first opportunity came when he directed the hit video “Oh I Think They Like Me” for break out Atlanta rap group Dem Franchize Boyz. The video quickly soared to #1 on BET’s 106andPark and from that moment on Juwan has never looked back.
Having built a solid career in the music video industry for the past ten years, he has his sights set on breaking into film & television. Currently residing in Los Angeles California, Juwan recently directed a TV Pilot for well know radio personality Big Boy titled “Big Boy’s Neighborhood”. The show is a work place comedy centered on the daily drama that comes along with producing a radio show and being a celebrity radio personality.
In 2014, Juwan worked with Flavor Unit Films on an original screenplay titled “November Rule” that he wrote, sold, and helped produce. The film was released in August 2015 on Netflix, BET and other streaming platforms. In 2015, Juwan directed his first feature film “Secrets” which he also co-wrote. The film premiered in 2016 at the American Black Film Festival and was released in September 2017.
Juwan continues to build new opportunities for himself through his writing of original screenplays, televsion shows, docu-series and other linear and digital content along with directing film and tv series for notable networks and studios. In 2020, Juwan directed the film Bad Dad Rehab: The Next session for TVOne, that aired the summer on 2021. He had previously working with the network the year before co-producing and directing reshoots for the film “Steppin Back to Love”. Currently Juwan is a director on the televisions series “JOHNSON” which airs on Bounce and is produced by Cedric The Entainer’s company A Bird and A Bear Entertainment. He’s directeed a total of 17 episodes for the series with Season 4 set to release later in 2024.
"There are always going to be smarter people," he says. "There are always going to be people who have connections. But the one thing you can't really discredit is your work ethic. There's always an opportunity to work harder than the next person." Juwan plans to continue with this mindset to help launch him into the next phase of his directing career.
